Chelsea fans are calling on their owner and Russian billionaire, Roman Abramovich to appoint Jody Morris as Antonio Conte’s successor following a disappointing draw against Huddersfield Town earlier in the week.
Given the Italian tactician’s comments regarding his future following the game at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, many blues fans feel he won’t be at the club come next season.
According to Conte, “I think for this season this is my last game, It’s always the same and I don’t have anything to add. This is not my task, there is a club to judge the situation and then to take the best decision.”
Although the ex-Juventus boss signed a new deal with the club last summer, talk of him going back to Italy with AC Milan or the national team has dominated the headlines for much of the season.
With just one Premier League game remaining, Conte’s side sit fifth in the table, two points behind Liverpool and need a favour from Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend if they’re to seal a top four finish. Meanwhile, Morris has done a fantastic job with the Blues’ u18’s team this season.
Under his guidance the club’s talented youngsters won almost every trophy available to them this term. The FA Youth Cup, the U18 Premier League Southern title, the U18 Premier League Cup and the U18 Premier League national final were all picked up to showcase their dominance at this level.
Morris’ work isn’t going unnoticed and some fans believe he will be the perfect replacement for Conte. He knows most of the young stars well and the 39 years old is being seen as the only one that knows the club very well.
It has been many years since an English coach took over the affairs of Chelsea as a coach. Morris played for Chelsea from 1996-2003 as a midfielder. he played 124 times for the Blues after graduating from their youth team. He was born on the 22nd of December 1978. He was appointed as the coach of Chelsea under 18 in 2016.
