Mr Saliu Ladapo is a 24-year-old man who recently got into trouble for allegedly killing his 19-year-old girlfriend, Miss Confidence Ebere Nwama. According to reports from most dailies, the two were deeply in love until the ugly day when Salisu decided to end it all with a knife.

The 24-year-old Salisu allegedly killed Ebere at Oshinle area of Akure, Ondo State. He blamed the devil for the death of the school certificate leaver, saying he did not know what came over him when he stabbed Ebere to death.

After his arrest Yusuf told homicide detectives attached to the Ondo State Police Command, that he stabbed Confidence to death because she laid a curse on him. According to the police, Salisu allegedly killed Nwama after she laid a curse on him for having sex with another girl.

Salisu, who blamed the devil for his action, added that he didn’t know what came over him. While weeping profusely at the police station, Salisu said:

“After she came back from sitting for her West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE), people told her that I came with another woman. She was very angry. She came to my place Saturday last week and asked me what the meaning of that was.

“She started cursing me; she said that I had sex with another girl; I would never make it in life. I asked her why she was cursing me. I cursed her back. She left in annoyance. She came back on May 15, and I asked her to forgive me.

“We got talking. I then begged her to retract the curse she placed on me, but she said she couldn’t. I seized her phone and we both started struggling to take possession of the phone.

“I was still begging her to retract the curse, when she went out to tell one of our neighbours that I seized her phone. The woman came to ask me. I told the woman what she did. The woman left to call another neighbour. But before the woman returned with the second neighbour, something came over me. I took a knife and stabbed her.”

Meanwhile, the parents of a 19-year-old Ebere Confidence Nwanma, have insisted that Salisu must marry the deceased at an elaborate wedding ceremony.

This, the parents said, was part of their tradition. The wedding ceremony, according to them, will take place in their hometown in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State. The family said it was to prevent the death of young children Salisu’s family from dying.

Mr. and Mrs. Nwanma, insisted that the suspected killer must marry her corpse in their home town before she could be buried.

“In our place, it is mandatory as our tradition that the man must marry the corpse of our daughter. “He must perform the normal traditional rite by taking the corpse to our village in Oru East in Imo State where the marriage would take place.

“It is mandatory that he pays everything multiply by two because he brought our daughter dead for marriage. He would perform all the traditional rites before our family would let him go.

“This is because without this traditional rite, every young person from the family of the boy would never get to the age of our daughter. They will die a sudden death just like our daughter. “This is not our making; it is the tradition of our ancestors even before we were born.

“Our people all over the world are waiting for the court judgment. Any way it goes, the boy must perform that marital rite to our daughter’s corpse before anything,” the parents said.
