The Senior Special Assistant to Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, Abia State governor on Public Communications, Mr. Sam Hart has taken to the social media to celebrate the Second Coming of Golden Guinea Breweries, Umuahia.
Hart who described the second coming of the company as a mockery silencer following several taunting from opposition about the moribund situation of the brewery for some years now, urged everyone to celebrate for it a new dawn for Abia.
The brewery which was founded in 1962 by the Old Eastern Nigerian regional government of Dr. Michael Okpara was one of the main indigenous competitor to foreign manufacturers in the country until it ceased production since after a disastrous fire incident.
Meanwhile, the recent attempts that have been made to resuscitate the firm seem to have yielded good fruit as announced by Sam Hart.
It will be recalled that Dr Okezie Ikpeazu during a briefing with the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), South East Zone in March 2018 revealved how the concessioning of state-owned industries by previous governments was the major obstacle militating against efforts by his administration to revamp the moribund industries.
Golden Guinea Breweries was one of the companies Ikpeazu listed together with Enyimba Hotel and Modern Ceramics, Umuahia.
Ikpeazu revealved then that the breweries was sold to Chief Okey Ezenwa while the Enyimba Hotel and Modern Ceramics were sold to both the Aba Chamber of Commerce and the Catholic Church.
It will be recalled then that Ikpeazu said efforts were in top gear to revive the brewery as German engineers were working to rebuild the facility.
He revealed then that Chief Ezenwa was currently seeking for a loan from the Bank of Industry to facilitate the revamping project which has finally come to become a reality.
Chief Ezenwa who hails from Amudi Obizi, Ezinihitte-Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, is the son of Eze Bernard Nzenwa, brother to Justice Mary Ukaego Odili and brother-in-law to the former governor of Rivers State, Dr. Peter Odili
According to Sam Hart who took to his took to his Twitter Account to announce the return of Golden Guinea Breweries posted pictures of himself, Abia State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi-Kalu when they visited Golden Guinea Breweries Plc, Umuahia to monitor the ongoing resuscitation effort.
Hart who couldn’t hide his joy said he took the opportunity to drink of the newly brewed Golden Guinea Beer from the tank on the direction of the Chairman of the company, Okey Nzenwa.
The SSA to the governor went further to his Facebook account to write the following statements: “Yesterday evening, I got a call from my boss, the Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi Kalu, excitedly telling me that the exterior of the Golden Guinea Breweries Plc Complex was being painted.
“He wanted us to go inside to see what was going on immediately. I assured him we’d go today after I secure proper appointments. You see you won’t blame JOK for his excitement. Anybody with the barest sense of history will understand the significance of Golden Guinea Breweries Plc coming back to life.
“It was also becoming a mocking subject. People have taunted us with Golden Guinea. A regular question aides of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu get is where is the Golden Guinea you people promised us? So a resuscitated Golden Guinea will be a mockery silencer.
“I called the Chairman of Golden Guinea Breweries Plc, Chief Okey Nzenwa(Okeosisi Mbaise) and we agreed to meet at the brewery by Noon today 12/04/19 so he can personally give us a proper tour.
“Noon today we were there and brethren, owoowo! JOK and I drank draft beer direct from the fermentation tank of the renewed and resuscitated brewery.
“We saw thousands of crates of empty bottles ready to be filled up. We saw all hands on deck. We saw jobs. Direct and indirect. We saw drivers, distributors, dealers, wholesalers, retailers, suppliers, food sellers, booked hotels for the truck drivers, we saw everything.
“I remembered what Okeosisi told me a long time ago during one of my several visits. “Sam, any day you see us painting outside of the brewery complex, just know that we have finished all the work inside and we’re ready to open”.
“Ladies and gentlemen, true to his word, the exterior is being repainted because they’re ready inside. Governor Okezie Ikpeazu took this project personal. He has paid many visits to the complex. He has held countless meetings with Okeosisi.
“They have both attended several meetings at places today is not the day to outline to ensure that this project comes to fruition. Once the end result of a project is odinma Ndi Abia, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu takes it personal.
“Kudos to Chief Okey Nzenwa and his team for keeping faith with this project. It wasn’t easy. He faced economic upheavals and attacks by competitors but he has proven that his Okeosisi title is not a nick name.
“Tell it to all who care to listen. Oyoyo mmi is back and will be available at a bar close to you shortly.”
