Ekiti State Government yesterday relieved 2,000 workers employed by former governor Ayo Fayose-led administration shortly after the governorship election of their jobs, describing it as an abuse of process.
It specifically said the employment of the 2,000 workers by the Fayose-led administration was a clear violation of due process and the rules governing civil service.
Their termination yesterday, however, followed report of a committee set up by the state government to review appointments in the state.
Commissioner for information, Aare Muyiwa Olumilua made this known yesterday while briefing newsmen at Governor’s office in Ado Ekiiti said.
He said the state government also directed officials dismissed between 16th October, 2014 and 15th October, 2018 should go to the Office of Establishment to ascertain their current status.
Olumilua said: “His Excellency, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi has directed the Head of Service to collate all available vacancies in the civil service with the overhead implications to enable the state government prepare to recruit suitable and qualified Ekiti citizens into the public service, irrespective of the party affiliations.
“The officers reinstated into the local government service commission between 16th October, 2014, and 15th October, 2018 are to be reabsorbed by the relevant personnel Boards, and migrated to biometric payroll with immediate effect.”
“The 169 officers recruited in 2014 but had their appointments terminated by the Governor Fayose-led administration, shall be considered for reabsorption by the Ekiti State House of Assembly Service Commission.
“But on a case-bycase basis reabsorption will be conditional on availability of vacancies in their previous offices of appointment.”
But reacting to the development, former governor Ayo Fayose, who spoke through his media aide, Lere Olayinka described the step taken by the state government as wicked and political vendetta promoted to the peak. Olayinka, in a statement said
“Fayemi has only succeeded in writing his name in the history book of Ekiti as one who inflicts pains and sorrow on the people.
He said: “Fayemi has only demonstrated the wickedness in his heart by sacking Ekiti sons and daughters who were duly employed by the state government.
“It will be on record that the PDP government of Ayodele Fayose gave jobs to over 2,000 unemployed youths in Ekiti while the APC government of Kayode Fayemi sacked them.
“Also, whoever that applauds this show of wickedness will be reminded in future when actions of Fayemi will also be reviewed.
“As for those sons and daughters of Ekiti who have now become victims of Fayemi’s wickedness and political vendetta, they should place their hope in God and enforce their rights and seek redress in the court of law.”
Also, State Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Sola Adigun said the mistakes of the past administration should not be meted on the innocent Ekiti workers.
The TUC Chairman urged Fayemi to remedy “ugly situation” in the state.
