Robbers attacked a three-man team of Police officers on patrol in Aba, Abia State, at the weekend, killed one of them, injured one, while the other escaped by whisker.
We gathered that the incident which took place at Ibadan Street, within the crime prone Ndiegoro axis of Aba, during the evening also left dead a civilian identified as the driver of the minibus used for the patrol.
It was also gathered that the gunmen after the attack, made away with three riffles assigned to the three officers on patrol.
Sources from the area told our reporter that the shock of what happened was yet to leave them as no one expected such bloody attack on the police officers said to be attached to the Ndiegoro Police Station.
One of the sources said that the gunmen practically sent everyone into hiding with their raining bullets before shooting one of the three police officers as well as a civilian who drove the minibus.
Another source said that for reasons best known by the gunmen, they abandoned their guns and used machetes to severe the body of one of the police officers leaving him badly injured.
It was also gathered that the situation in the area was placed under more tension as it took the police several hours before they come carry the body of the deceased officer.
It was also gathered from other sources within the area that the riffles snatched from the officers have brought the number of missing riffles at the Ndiegoro Police station to four.
The sources alleged one riffle was snatched from an officer attached to the same Ndiegoro Police station within the week along Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic at East Street by Etche road.
Abia State Commissioner of police, Ene Okon confirmed the killing of one police officer and the injuring of another.
He however said that police have arrested two suspects in connection to the incident.
Okon said that the officers were on normal patrol when they were ambushed by robbers who shot at them killing one at the process.
The Abia police boss said that two rifles were snatched from the officers.
