The Abia State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to rescind the reappointment of Mr. Nwaogu Nwaogu as the state’s representative in the new board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The Abia APC informed the President that the reappointment of Nwogu will not only ridicule the principle of good governance, but will equally undermine his firm belief and support for party supremacy.
It will be recalled that since the appointment of the 16 board members of the commission, with Pius Odubu, a former deputy governor of Edo state, as its chairman, a lot of negative reactions have come different NDDC states.
This recent appeal to the president from Abia was contained in a letter titled: “humble and passionate protest over the reappointment of Mr. Nwaogu Nwaogu as the Abia State representative in the board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)” and was signed by Hon. Donatus Nwankpa (Chairman), Barr. Perfect Okorie (Secretary) and Comrade Benedict Godson (Publicity Secretary).
The party said that it chose to bring their dissatisfaction on the matter to the president because the office of the NDDC representative has a crucial role to play in marketing and publicizing the federal government in a state that does not have an APC governor.
Part of the letter reads, “Your Excellency Sir, the said office to states within the Niger Delta Region without a governor acts as strategic agency that gives the party the opportunity to publicize and market the Federal Government through Programmes and projects initiated and implemented by the NDDC.
“It serves as a major yardstick of Federal Government presence in the said states and with an incompetent and passive representative, such opportunities are lost as we witnessed in the last tenure occupied by same nominee.
“Secondly sir, the office is expected to contribute to the development of the party in the state through NDDC empowerment programmes, development and palliative projects, but in the case of Abia it was not a reality.
“The representative rather than promote the party, sponsored disintegration and instability in the party by being a major sponsor of litigations instituted against the party both at the state and national levels by Chief Ikechi Emenike through some surrogates.
“The said representative neither attended nor promoted party activities like rallies, campaigns, billboards, rather openly in defiance of the establishment party structure approved by the Congress, the National body and affirmed by the court in a suit instituted by his allies still was busy sponsoring and engaging in antiparty activities that undermined the performance of the party from his ward, local government, zone and the state in general.”
The party also informed the President that the reappointment of Mr. Nwogu will be a great disservice to the royal and committed members of the party from the Oil rich Ukwa West LGA and Abia South in general who have stood by the party and gave their best through out the struggle.
“Your Excellency Sir, we humble appeal to you to save our party and her teaming supporters who are determined to wrestle Abia from PDP come 2023 by rescinding the appointment of the said Mr. Nwaogu Nwaogu.
“We have better qualified, loyal, committed and generally acceptable members of our great party from Ukwa West LGA.
“The reappointment of Mr. Nwaogu Nwaogu will not only ridicule the principle of good governance, but will equally undermine your firm belief and support for party supremacy.”
